Let's Hair Your Story
Hi group ,my name is shawnette aka nette. I’m 28yrs old. I joined this group because i love learning more about my natural hair & seeing so many different hair textures from y’all is inspiring!
So i originally went natural two years ago as of January 2020 in the first picture but as of June 2020 i did a complete chop off in hope to re grow my hair to a more natural healthy state .
I felt like i was consistently trying to fix & tame my hair to a certain curl pattern, it was pretty when it wanted to be but very dry & brittle as well in some spots . Now that i have this hair cut (2 months) i still have NOT found the right product to help grease my hair but I’m learning & have a few good suggestions from a few people i know .
I’m gonna share it with y’all once i figure it out nice to meet y’all

Let's Hair Your Story
Hello. I’ve been pretty quiet just looking and reading, but I figured I would finally introduce myself and share my hair story.
I don’t know if it’s much of a story, and I’m honestly always battling with my hair. People assume I have “good hair” and that I’m mixed so what issues could I possibly struggle with?
Well....a lot. First off my mom is mixed, not me.. It’s wavy/curly yes, but it’s thick and it’s more of a type 4 at the top and type 3 at the bottom, so I always have to buy several types of products for the top and the bottom OR add way too much gel or hair spray or something yucky and alcohol filled because I struggle to make the bottom waves match the top poof. I also have psoriasis, a skin disease. All over my body BUT thickest in my scalp.
I can’t wear protective styles like box braids or twists or corn rolls for weeks and weeks... I have to wash my hair at least once a week with T-Gel which is a thick tar smelling shampoo before I use my regular shampoo.
I’ll spend tons of money to get a protective style because I want to be a dope beautiful melanin queen with a dope look like the queens I see on social media and push myself and my scalp to its limits.
I’m proud of where I’ve come though in “knowing” my hair. I know it’s more dry in the winter so I use thicker products and not products with alcohol but I also know gels work better than creams for me, and trimming every 8 weeks is a MUST for me because like right now during COVID, my split ends can be insane and make all my strands unhealthy causing for an intense cut when all I want it to do is grow. And my hair doesn’t do well with color, it became brittle and changed my curl pattern. I also prefer no heat, I’ll go 6-8 months without a heat look. And that’s what works for me. wash and goes, top buns, the occasional corn row but only for two weeks. And the rare chance it’s straight. And no more color....
So, not sure if this is the story y’all were looking for, it’s not a total success. I’m a work in progress and I just love looking at all the different amazing hair types and cherishing what I have and admiring those who have what I don’t in the most positive, way. Here’s the many ways I wear my hair including the two years I let a stylist dye me blonde lol

My journey began when our oldest told me to stop getting relaxers and she’d do my hair. At the time I got them once every 3-6 months but had been getting them since I was a little girl. I followed her advice and man was it a good decision. Most important it has allowed me to instill in our youngest daughter to be proud of her natural hair, and two it’s saved us money! Then Mikala moved away and I was stuck to figure this out on my own. So I basically do the bare minimum but I do get my ends trimmed and sleep with a satin pillowcase or bonnet each night. Everyone that knows me knows I have ZERO clue how to do hair. Anyway here is my journey from 2014-2020.
